Pray for Our Heroes of Peking University Mountaineering Team
On August 7,2002, five students in Peking University Mountaineering Team lost co ntact with the Base Camp when they were trying to climb Mt. Xixabangba in Distri ct of Tibet, China. At a location at an elevation of 6,800 Meters above sea leve l, they apparently met a sudden avalanche. Up till now, two unidentified bodies have been found but the other three students are still missing. Peking Universit y is currently working closely with the State Council and Local Government of th e Autonomous District of Tibet to carry on rescue works. A top rescue team has b een dispatched to Tibet, which will work with Tibetan local rescue teams to sear ch the missing students in the mountains. Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, Deputy Premier Li Lanqing and Minister of Education Chen Zhili have telephoned or sent fax to Peking University to express their hig hest concerns of the safety of the students and their condolence to the students who lost the lives in the disaster.
