This is a half an hour interview arranged by the Filmko for the promotion of the movie “Inner Senses”.The Sun reporter said there isn’t much chance sitting together with Leslie for a chat but they do know each other well.If Leslie wants to talk half an hour is definitely not enough. 　　 　　Leslie has been actively doing publicity for the movie “INNER SENSES” these days though he doesn’t like to do publicity.When asked the reason why he said he has never acted in thriller before and this is a challenging role for him.“To tell you the truth, Leslie Cheung is not working under pressure. This company (Filmko) has a different perspective and I appreciate the way they make movies.They won’t follow the trend of making comedies but try to make some alternative movies and this shows their sincerity too.I hope they can find their own way out soon and make a movie that would be an artistic and box office success. 　　 　　Talking about movies, Leslie said he has only one thing in mind, that is, give his best to the role he was asked to play.He wouldn’t care too much about the box office.Leslie said he had played different kind of roles and characters over the years but if he was asked what would he like to do next, he said he would like to play a terminal patient like the one in the Korean movie “Xmas in August”.He said when considering an offer he is more concern about the message behind the movie. “Comedy isn’t bad but I like movies with message”, said Leslie. 　　 　　Gorgor always want to stay low profile.He said he has phobia for huge crowd of people, say for example, there are usually too many people in parties and premieres.He doesn’t like going to someone else premieres as he thought it is not good to steal the limelight of the host but he would feel equally uncomfortable if he was being ignored.Because of these worries he doesn’t want to go to premieres except for his own because those attending would be people who love him and he would not be stealing somebody’s limelight. 　　 　　People are envy about Leslie.Being in his 40s he can keep his body so fit and slim.Leslie said he played badminton twice a week.To be a professional artist he said he has to keep his body fit and his look beautiful all the time because that’s what the audience wants. 　　 　　Before the Sun’s turn Leslie was interviewed by an English paper and the reporter found Leslie very fluent in his English conversation.Leslie said he lived in England for 7 years which gave him enough practice in English but he said his Mandarin is even better.“I spent half a year in Beijing learning Mandarin for the movie “Farewell to My Concubine.I have a tutor and am serious in learning”.He said he always reminds artists around him that they should be well versed with Mandarin and English coz there would be plenty of opportunities followed by the possible opening up of market as a result of China’s accession to WTO.“You will lose your chance if you’re not good in these two languages”.When asked if he’s going to learn another language what would he like?He said ‘French’ because France is such a beautiful place.So, that’s our LESLIE CHEUNG. 　　 　　The Sun 2002.03.24
